SIMPLE SENTENCES (سادہ فقرات)
In Simple Past Tense, we use the 2nd form of the verb (also called the past form). Here is how to form simple sentences:
Subject + 2nd form of verb + Object
Examples:
- I went home yesterday.
میں کل گھر گیا - She made tea.
اس نے چائے بنائی - He got a scholarship.
اس نے وظیفہ حاصل کیا - It rained heavily.
زور کی بارش ہوئی - They won the match.
وہ میچ جیت گئے - We bought a new car.
ہم نے نئی گاڑی خریدی - Farah ironed the clothes.
فرح نے کپڑے استری کیے - He came back.
وہ واپس آیا
NEGATIVE SENTENCES (منفی فقرات)
For negative sentences in Simple Past Tense, we use the auxiliary verb did not (didn’t) before the main verb (in its base form). The structure is:
Subject + did not (didn’t) + base form of the verb + Object
Examples:
- He did not go to school.
وہ سکول نہیں گیا - She did not make tea.
اس نے چائے نہیں بنائی - Sana did not play tennis today.
ثناء نے آج ٹینس نہیں کھیلا - It did not rain.
آج بارش نہیں ہوئی - They did not take the examinations.
انہوں نے امتحانات نہیں دیے - We did not pay our dues.
ہم نے واجبات نہیں ادا کیے - Boys did not buy new books.
لڑکوں نے نئی کتابیں نہیں خریدیں - You did not help her.
تم نے اس کی مدد نہیں کی
INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES (سوالیہ فقرات)
For yes/no questions in Simple Past Tense, we use Did at the beginning of the sentence. The structure is:
Did + Subject + base form of the verb + Object?
Examples:
- Did he go to school?
کیا وہ سکول گیا؟ - Did she cook food?
کیا اس نے کھانا پکایا؟ - Did it rain yesterday?
کیا کل بارش ہوئی؟ - Did we go for a walk?
کیا ہم سیر کو گئے؟ - Did they catch fish?
کیا انہوں نے مچھلیاں پکڑیں؟ - Did you call me?
کیا تم نے مجھے بلایا؟ - Did I not wait for him?
کیا میں نے اس کا انتظار نہیں کیا؟ - Did the boys not work hard?
