Past Continuous Tense in Urdu

It Is Used For

This tense is used to describe an activity that was in progress at a specific time in the past. It shows that something was ongoing and had not yet been completed.

SIMPLE SENTENCES (سادہ فقرات):

Structure:
Subject + was/were + verb + ing + object

Examples:

1. He was going to Karachi.
   وہ کراچی جا رہا تھا۔
2. She was buying a book.
   وہ کتاب خرید رہی تھی۔
3. It was hailing.
   اولے پڑ رہے تھے۔
4. You were laughing.
   آپ ہنس رہے تھے۔
5. They were taking exercise.
   وہ ورزش کر رہے تھے۔
6. The dogs were barking.
   کتے بھونک رہے تھے۔
7. I was making tea.
   میں چائے بنا رہی تھی۔
8. We were going to market.
   ہم بازار جا رہے تھے۔

NEGATIVE SENTENCES (منفی فقرات):

Subject + was/were + not + verb + ing + object

Examples:

   وہ وہاں نہیں جا رہا تھا۔
